Offering Workplace Rapid Testing Kits To Local Businesses
CAPE BRETON REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO DELIVER RAPID TESTING KITS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES
June 4, 2021
Sydney, N.S. – Today, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce announced its plan to distribute free self-screening rapid testing kits to small and medium-sized businesses throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
The goal of the program is to protect the lives of essential and vulnerable workers and the livelihoods of small business owners by reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
“The need for rapid tests has always been the key to curbing the spread of this virus since it was first detected more than a year ago,” says Kathleen Yurchesyn, CEO, Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce. “By adding a layer of protection that can help identify asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic workers, the program will allow workplaces to proactively identify cases of COVID-19 that may have otherwise been missed, supporting employee safety and business continuity.”
Data collection is also a key component of the program, and all participating businesses will need to electronically submit their screening results regularly. This accumulated data will be reported back to public health.
“Collecting data is an important part of this process and will go a long way in allowing us to restore consumer confidence and reopen our economy safely,” says Yurchesyn.
The rapid test program is part of the safe restart of the economy and is supported by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce and the Province of Nova Scotia, and the federal government. The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to be part of the national network of chambers and boards of trade that is implementing the program and bringing it to life.
Businesses that are interested in accessing rapid test kits for their workplaces can register no later than Wednesday, June 9, to participate in the first NS business cohort. Businesses can register by completing the form here.
Registrants must choose the “NS Cohort- June 11” when they register to be included in the first information session on June 11, 2021.
