SYDNEY, N.S.- The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for their 31st Excellence in Business Awards. In the spirit of Stepping Up For Local, this is the community’s opportunity to nominate a person, business, or organization that has pushed themselves to make an impact on our community over the past year.

There are 12 award categories this year:

Additionally, there is an opportunity to nominate an individual or business for the following People’s Choice Award categories which help to create a short list of businesses that will then go to a public vote later in the summer:

  • Favourite Place to Shop in CBRM
  • CBRM Citizen of the Year
  • Favourite thing to do/experience in CBRM

The newly introduced Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding entrepreneur who was born outside of Canada and has started a successful business in the CBRM. This individual has overcome adversity, exhibits leadership both in their community and within their business, and has a strong track record of business growth. This award has been created in collaboration with the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership (CBLIP).

Nominations will be accepted through the online form until August 1, 2021 and nominators can submit a nomination for more than one category. All nomination forms can be accessed by visiting here: https://cbregionalchamber.ca/events/overview/excellence-in-business/

Once the nomination period for the awards closes, all completed and eligible nominations will go before a region-wide judging committee who will evaluate each nomination submission. Each award category will have 3 shortlisted finalists. This group of finalists will be announced in early September. The winners of each category will then be announced at the awards gala in October.

The awards gala will take place during National Small Business Week on the evening of Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, with a reception at 6 p.m. and the dinner and gala beginning at 7 p.m.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the awards night. The Chamber encourages businesses to reach out to them directly if they are interested in promoting their business at this event. Please contact Melissa at [email protected] or 902-564-6453.
