Inspiring Self-Confidence Through Self-Care | First Impressions

In today’s fast-paced world, taking time for self-care is more important than ever, and First Impressions Medical Aesthetics & Rejuvenation Clinic understands just that. Deborah Hart, founder of First Impressions, opened the spa’s doors in 2014 after working as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). Deborah, the first NP in Nova Scotia to open a clinic outside of the hospital, founded the spa under the principles of helping people maximize their overall health and well-being. After working in several Canadian provinces and territories, Deborah noticed a lack of rejuvenation services in our healthcare system, particularly in Cape Breton. Thus, she formed First Impressions as a solopreneur in Sydney, giving people a local option for skincare and other rejuvenation services.

Since opening, First Impressions has expanded its team and offerings from an increased rejuvenation catalogue to skin treatment and sexual wellness. Deborah and her team never strayed from their mission of improving the well-being of their clients. Well-being and confidence are terms frequently used at First Impressions. That is because Deborah does not view her work purely for aesthetics, but rather as a way for people to feel more confident and regain aspects of their lives. Often, new clients are “Restoring a sense of self-confidence, in their treatment and themselves”, Deborah says, a feeling she wants all of her clientele to share.

The success of First Impressions in Sydney allowed Deborah to branch out and offer these services elsewhere, opening another location in Bedford in March of 2020. In just the same week, First Impressions Bedford opened, the world was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, something Deborah could not have foreseen, though that did not deter her. The Bedford location survived the pandemic during its growth period and has been thriving ever since, largely in part due to Deborah’s leadership and the incredibly talented staff under her.

It can be difficult for people to walk away from a job or system they have grown accustomed to, and it can be even harder to risk opening a business in an industry unseen in your province. Yet, Deborah Hart still took the challenge and adversity head-on. Her unwavering commitment to helping people with their self-image and confidence overshadowed any doubt she or anyone else may have had. Ten years after opening the doors of First Impressions, Deborah and her team have successfully opened a second location, fostered a remarkable team of nurses and aestheticians, and helped the people of Cape Breton and beyond feel truly confident in their skin.
